On Thursday 16 June municipal vehicle hire company CTS Hire opened the doors to its depot in Brackley to receive a special visitor – Asperger’s champion, public speaker, and author Alex Manners.
During Autism Awareness Month this year Alex gave his ‘My life living with Aspergers’ talk at the Solihull Headquarters of CTS Hire parent company Paragon Banking Group. During his presentation Alex mentioned a friend, Daniel Price, who was very interested in bins and waste collection. CTS Hire Sales Manager Steven Dunne was present at the event and decided to invite Alex and Daniel to CTS Hire’s depot for a tour and a ride in a refuse truck.
Steven Dunne said: “Alex’s talk was fantastic and so insightful. He is a very charismatic speaker and had the entire audience fully engaged. When he mentioned Daniel’s passion for bins and waste, I thought they might like to get first-hand insight into our industry.”
After the visit to CTS Hire’s Brackley depot Steven then accompanied Alex and Daniel to Biffa’s Fox Yard in Tipton where waste and recyclable materials are processed after collection.
Alex and Daniel really enjoyed the day and were fascinated to learn more about the workings of refuse trucks, how many bins they can lift and the waste streams they carry. Incidentally Biffa is storing all the bins in preparation for the Commonwealth Games and Daniel was in his element looking around hundreds of brand-new bins.
Alex Manners commented: “We both had a great time visiting CTS and Biffa. I often go past these types of places and am always intrigued by what goes on inside. To then be able to tour around these locations was amazing. I could tell how much Daniel enjoyed the day by the amount of questions he was asking. I want to say a massive thank you to Steven for organising the trip and for the way we were looked after.”
