Connick Tree Care makes capital purchase with new Isuzus

As part of its ongoing tree maintenance contracts in central London, Connick Tree Care has added a further three Isuzu 7.5 tonne arb trucks to its fleet of vehicles working in the capital. As part of the company’s sustainability programme, the extra payload from the 7.5 tonne Isuzus allows Connick Tree Care to benefit from much greater productivity, by focusing on being as efficient as possible with its city-based operations.

As Mike Connick from Connick Tree Care explains,” Whilst we successfully operate many 3.5 tonne Isuzu Grafters in many of our operations elsewhere, we feel that the unique nature of working in London is better suited to the larger 7.5 tonne GVW Isuzu. Principally, the increased payload allows us to maximise the number of jobs we can complete within areas that have limited space and accessibility; however, the compact footprint and format of the larger Isuzu 7.5 tonners still gives us incredible manoeuvrability and flexibility, which combined with the extra payload, is essential in the areas where we are working”
The Isuzu N75.190 rigids each have specialist arb bodies that have been built by Southern Vehicle Bodies. Featuring a spacious cab mounted, full width toolbox and a purpose designed tipper chip box body for the collection of woodchip, the Isuzus are towing chipping machines that can chip up to 200 mm branches, which the company then recycles as a renewable biomass fuel.

“Operating in central London, these LEZ compliant Euro VI Isuzus are ideally fit for purpose for this type of intensive operation, and they totally fit in with the company’s sustainability objectives. We also give the drivers full driver training to enhance the overall efficiency of the trucks,” added Mike Connick.

Employee focussed company Connick Tree Care are specialists in the preservation and maintenance of trees, with its head office located in Reigate, Surrey. Having been in business for over 36 years, and currently employing over 70 staff, the company services commercial, domestic and term contract clients, including Royal Parks, English Heritage and many local authorities and housing associations.

“We have been operating Isuzu trucks at 3.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne for well over 15 years now based on the proven reliability of the vehicles and how easily they handle the rigorous workload. Operating in our business is a tough environment for trucks but without fail, the Isuzus stand-up to the overall test of time, which is why we now focus on them as the core truck within our fleet,” commented Mike Connick.

Operating with either two- or three-men gangs, these latest three Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigids will be in the Connick Tree Care fleet for at least five years covering approximately 20,000 km per annum. They follow-on from three Isuzu 3.5 tonne Grafter trucks supplied to Connick Tree Care this time last year as part of their overall policy to continually invest in quality trucks that are not only robust in operation but also tick the company’s environmental and sustainability requirements.

“We have been working with Connick Tree Care now for many years and it’s really good to see that Isuzu is the truck of choice for this long-established tree maintenance business. Over this time, we have worked really closely with them to ensure that each new truck specification fits perfectly with the type of operation being undertaken,” said Lee Tansley, national fleet sales manager, Isuzu Truck UK.
