As part of its ongoing low carbon commitment, the Eric Wright Group has expanded its workforce fleet with the purchase of a number of fully electric vehicles (EVs).
The Bamber-bridge based company this week took delivery of ten fully electric Kia e-Niro cars from Bolton Kia – Europe’s No.1 Kia Dealer, and five Model 3 Tesla cars and has further orders placed for 10 EVs which are due to arrive later this summer.
The company is transitioning its entire fleet to electric/low emission vehicles as part of its drive to low carbon. Last year 20% of the 170 cars which the business leases were hybrid, plug-in hybrid or pure EV and the company intends to increase this to 60% by 2025. A number of businesses within the Group have also been trialling electric commercial vehicles to identify whether a switch to commercial electric vehicles is also possible.
In a further move to minimise its environmental impact the Eric Wright Group has also switched energy provider to a 100% renewable provision through Haven Power. Earlier this year the Group received the Gold Standard Award from Carbon Saver for successfully reducing its carbon footprint for the 11th consecutive year. In addition, the company has also been recognised by Waste Saver and Water Saver with Gold Standard Awards for its reduction in waste and water consumption over a three year period. Earlier this year the Eric Wright Group won the Fleet Award 2020 for Fleet of the Year (under 1,000 vehicles category) based on the strength of the fleet’s net zero carbon ambitions.
Commenting on the fleet investment and the company’s drive towards zero carbon, Group managing director Jeremy Hartley said: “We are committed to operating our business in a wholly responsible way to preserve the world in which we live. That includes driving down carbon emissions within the fleet and doing everything possible across the business to mitigate our impact on the environment.
“We pride ourselves on being a commercial business with a social conscience and our environmental and social responsibilities are at the forefront of our culture and policy. It is important to us as a company, our employees and the wide range of customers we work with to make sure the environment is protected.”
Eric Wright Group partnered with Bolton Kia – Europe’s No.1 Kia Dealer, based on Middlebrook Retail Park, which saw the group add 10 fully-electric Kia e-Niro’s to their fleet. The award-winning Kia e-Niro recently scooped the Award for the ‘Best Medium Electric car’ in the Diesel Car & Eco Car Top 50 and offers up to 282 miles on a single charge.
Tracy McGrath, Business Sales Coordinator at Bolton Kia, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with the Eric Wright Group and be a part of the company’s drive towards zero carbon. Our fully-electric Kia e-Niro has been turning many heads in the industry and with customers alike, so it’s great to see a local company’s commitment to provide their staff with 10 new Kia e-Niro’s.”
Kevin Howard, Dealer Principal at Bolton Kia added: “We’re so pleased that the Eric Wright Group chose Bolton Kia, as Europe’s No.1 Kia Dealer, to provide them with new electric vehicles for their fleet. We have a dedicated Business and Fleet team within the dealership that partners with many local and national businesses, like Eric Wright Group, to deliver anything from one to hundreds of vehicles nationwide.”
Steve Openshaw, Group fleet and transport manager, said: “To facilitate the uptake of electric vehicles we have installed five charging points at our office and we plan to increase this to 25 next year with an additional 30 charging points across our property portfolio. Our drivers have also undergone environmental driver training with the Energy Saving Trust and we are collecting and analysing data on transport and energy use from all areas of the business to find new ways of further reducing our carbon footprint.”
