Environmental services company Urbaser Ltd is working with Fleetclear on contracts across the UK to enhance the safety of its vehicle fleets, and to monitor collection and cleansing services.
Urbaser Ltd has been installing Fleetclear safety equipment to its fleets for several years, in particular the RX-Lite 360 camera systems and Cyclear cyclist safety warning device. When Fleetclear launched its Fleetclear Connect web-based software platform in 2021, Urbaser Ltd ran trials on some of its vehicles and found that Fleetclear outperformed existing systems during a comparison exercise.
In the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead where Urbaser Ltd recently successfully retendered for the street cleansing contract, 12 frontline vehicles including sweepers, tippers and vans have been equipped with the Fleetclear Connect tracking and telematics system.
Graham Tidy, Contract Manager at Urbaser Ltd, said: “We plan to use the system to improve routing and work allocation, which will allow us to respond quicker to ad-hoc works such as fly tipping. Fleetclear Connect will also help us to analyse driver behaviour to ensure safe driving practice is followed, and fuel usage to improve the sustainability of the fleet.
“We also intend to look at additional integration opportunities between Fleetclear and the vehicles, to see if we can obtain any additional useful information to help us manage our services more efficiently.”
Similarly in the London Borough of Havering, where Urbaser Ltd commenced an 8-year waste and recycling collection and street cleansing contract in 2023, 65 vehicles have been installed with Fleetclear Connect tracking and telematics systems. The fleet comprises a combination of Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs), mechanical sweepers, caged tippers, and vans. Over half of the vehicles are fitted with Fleetclear’s RXLite LIVE camera system.
Adissa Ouedraogo, Senior Contract Manager at Urbaser Ltd, said: “The ability to use Fleetclear Connect tracking alongside recorded camera footage for the waste and recycling collection service has been a great new tool for management and supervisors to quickly investigate any complaints, missed collections or incidents. The Council has access to the live tracking map and can request historical camera footage, which they didn’t have under the previous contract and is a good support tool for the contact centre.”
Urbaser fleets operating in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge & Malling have also switched to using the Fleetclear system.
Mike Crowther, Business Development Director at Fleetclear said: “We are delighted to be working with Urbaser Ltd across their UK contracts. Fleetclear Connect provides a consolidated solution for vehicle safety, efficiency, and compliance data, which allows the Urbaser Ltd team to monitor multiple metrics and make informed decisions in the best interests of their clients.”
